non-sync audio when export to Flash

The audio on my FCPro 4.5 timeline plays fine. No red markers.

When I export to quicktime it is sync.

When I export to Flash using Quicktime Conversion, the audio is out of sync. The Flash file gets more out of sync as it plays.

I read "compressor creates audio sync problem post, but that was for PAL not NTSC.

I've changed all types of settings now and can't figure it out. If someone has a workaround or fix, I'd appreciate the input. Any thoughts?

Can you detail how you are exporting to Flash? Is it .swf or .FLV?

Hi Josh,

I'm exporting with the FLASH Video Exporter in Quicktime Conversion. I export a .flv then link the .flv to the FLASH file. Then, when I export from FLASH to .swf I see the non-sync audio.

One thing I'm not sure about is what to set the audio settings at in the FLASH Video Exporter from FCPro HD, the digital video's audio rate is 48.0 KHz and format 16-bit.

I upgraded the FLASH video exporter last night and Media Components. I'm now looking at whether I need to update Quicktime and also, whether this has to do with the .flv frame rate vs. FLASH file frame rate.

I'll check these things out & will post later today. This is driving me nuts.

Hmmm... maybe the best thing is to change some things and see if that fixes it- like try 44.1 KHz instead of 48 KHz. Or try importing an animation codec QT movie into Flash and make the FLV by exporting from Flash.

Are you using MP3 audio?

I use Squeeze to create FLV files and have not experienced drift, but I have not created long FLVs lately. How long is your movie?

Hi Josh,

I just read your post when I came to post my solution. In the past hour, I was busy trying your first suggestion and it did the trick.

I exported to QT Movie using QT Conversion and set everything on BEST and/or least or no compression.

Then, I imported the QT mov into FLASH2004 MX using Import Dialog box (Sorenson Squeeze) and set my settings to "Synchronize video the Macromedia Flash movie frame rate."

The clip now plays beautifully with no audio issues.

I have no idea why the FCPro .flv file was so funky. I think it was the frame-rate thing.

Thanks for the help Josh.

I am having the exact same problem. I just got a new G5 mac and firewired my old info to it. Now Everything I encode from Final Cut Pro 4.5 (except quicktime movies) has the out of sync kung-fu effect. I have Quicktime Pro 7. Have you found out why it's doing this yet?

Maybe it's best to export a QT movie, then encode from there...

Well, I can't say I know why it's doing this...I think it has to do with the key frame rate, but couldn't tell you why. I did devise a method that give's me synced audio for my Flash files. (This was where I was getting the non-sync, my Quicktime files were fine.)

Josh suggested importing the Quicktime file to FLASH to get the .flv file, and this is the key.

In FCPro HD:
Export video using Quicktime Conversion
Set Video Compression settings: Quality at Best; Frame rate at 29:97 (or what's appropriate), and don't enter any Key Frame rate. (In my case, setting the "key frame" to nothing ensured I had sync audio...if I put anything in the box....I had the "Godzilla" audio effect.)

Set Audio settings at Uncompressed, and set the rest of the settings according to your project.

In Flash:
Import to Library.

Import Dialog Box will pop-up.
Choose to embed video.
Set your compression settings. If you use the Bandwidth slider for the compressin selection, also select High Quality Key Frames. And, Select "Synch to Flash Document"

In Advanced Settings:
Import to current timeline.
Audio-Integrated.

Then select "Finish"

When file is imported to Library, double-click on it. A dialog box will appear, choose to export the file. It will export an .flv file.

Then in Flash, export Movie. Ta Daa. Nice .swf with sync audio.

This is what is working for me in getting an .flv. If you're outputting to Quicktime, try de-selecting that Key Frame setting.

Hope it helps.
