Since Final Cut Express was released, the gap has narrowed between FCE and FCP. Express is a perfectly fine editing program and should work well for anyone not needing the extra features Final Cut Pro has, which include:
- support for a lot more codecs, from the wonderful Pro Res to IMX, DVCPRO, XDCAM and a lot more
- support for third party cards from AJA, Blackmagic and others
- customized window and keyboard layouts
- media manager
- FXscript
- XML and OMF import/export
- FCP includes three-way color correction plus scopes, Express only has the single color wheel color corrector
- multicam
- batch export
And of course, Final Cut Pro comes with the whole software suite, including Compressor, Cinema Tools, Color, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Motion.
